TL;DR: Pitradev performs the complete Pind Daan on your behalf at the Ganga ghat in Varanasi when you cannot travel. The pandit takes the sankalp in the name and gotra of your departed ancestors, performs the complete vidhi with pinds and tarpan, and shares photos and videos after completion. A live WhatsApp video call can also be arranged so your family can witness the ceremony in real time. Packages from ₹3,000. Telugu Shashtri, Tamil Vadhyar, Hindi, and Odia pandits available. The charges and the vidhi are the same as the in-person ceremony.

Not every family can travel to Varanasi.
A son in Bangalore who cannot take a week off from his IT job to travel to Kashi. A daughter in the USA who wants to honour her father but cannot fly to India right now. An elderly mother in Chennai whose health does not permit the journey. A family in Hyderabad with young children who cannot manage the logistics of a pilgrimage. An NRI family in Dubai, Singapore, or London who feels the distance between them and their ancestors growing with every passing year.
The desire to honour the departed is there. The duty is felt deeply. But the journey is not possible — not right now, not this month, maybe not this year.
This is exactly why online Pind Daan exists. It is not a shortcut. It is not a lesser version of the ceremony. It is the same Pind Daan in Varanasi — performed by the same pandit, at the same Ganga ghat, with the same Vedic mantras and the same rice ball pinds — done on your behalf because you could not be there in person. The scriptures explicitly permit this: when a qualified Brahmin performs the rite with a pure sankalp in the name and gotra of the departed, the spiritual merit reaches the ancestors regardless of whether the family is physically present at the ghat.
The process is simple and designed so that the family can participate meaningfully from wherever they are.
If you have opted for a live video call, the pandit connects with you on WhatsApp video before the ceremony begins. You can see the ghat, the puja setup, and the entire ceremony in real time. The pandit explains each step as it happens, and at key moments — such as the sankalp and the pind offering — you can participate by repeating the mantras from your end.
There is no premium or surcharge for online Pind Daan. The packages and the vidhi are exactly the same as the in-person ceremony.
Telugu Shashtri, Tamil Vadhyar, Hindi, and Odia pandits are available for all online packages. The ceremony is performed in your language and tradition.
Online Pind Daan is not just for NRI families. It is used by a wide range of families across India and abroad:
Working professionals in Indian cities. A software engineer in Bangalore, a doctor in Mumbai, a government employee in Delhi — many families cannot take the 4 to 5 days needed for a Varanasi trip. Online Pind Daan allows them to fulfil the ancestral duty without disrupting their work.
Elderly family members. For families where the person responsible for the ceremony is elderly — above 70 or 80 — the physical journey to Varanasi, the ghat, the boat ride, and the 2-hour ceremony in the sun may be too strenuous. Online Pind Daan from the comfort of their home is the practical and respectful solution.
NRI families in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Gulf, and Singapore. Millions of Hindu families live abroad and feel the obligation to perform ancestral rites but cannot fly to India every time the need arises. Online Pind Daan bridges the distance.
Families with young children. Travelling to Varanasi with infants or toddlers is logistically challenging. Many families with young children opt for online Pind Daan for the immediate ceremony and plan an in-person visit later when the children are older.
Families who missed Pitru Paksha. Families who could not travel during Pitru Paksha use online Pind Daan on the next Amavasya or on the ancestor’s tithi to fulfil the duty without waiting another year.
Single daughters or daughters-in-law. Women who wish to perform Pind Daan for their parents but cannot travel to Varanasi alone often opt for the online ceremony, participating via video call while the pandit performs the rite at the ghat.
This is the most common question families ask, and the answer is clear.
The scriptures state that the spiritual merit of Pind Daan depends on three factors: the correctness of the sankalp (the names, gotra, and intention must be accurate), the correctness of the vidhi (the pinds, the mantras, and the offerings must follow the Vedic procedure), and the sincerity of the person commissioning the ceremony. Physical presence at the ghat is not one of the three factors.
Throughout Hindu tradition, the concept of performing rituals through a qualified Brahmin on one’s behalf has been established and accepted. Kings and emperors routinely commissioned Brahmins to perform yagnas and rituals on their behalf — they did not always sit at the ceremony themselves. The same principle applies to online Pind Daan: you commission a qualified pandit to perform the rite in the name and gotra of your ancestors, and the merit reaches them.
What online Pind Daan does not replace is the personal experience of being at the Ganga, of seeing the sacred river, and of feeling the spiritual energy of Kashi. That experience is valuable for the living family member’s own spiritual journey. However, the benefit to the departed ancestor — which is the primary purpose of Pind Daan — is the same whether the family is physically present or participating remotely.
For families who want to witness the ceremony in real time, Pitradev offers a live WhatsApp video call option at no additional cost (included in all packages).
The pandit connects with you 10 to 15 minutes before the ceremony. You can see the ghat, the Ganga, and the puja setup on your phone or laptop screen. The pandit shows you the samagri, the pinds, and the kalash before beginning.
During the ceremony, the pandit narrates each step in your language. At the time of the sankalp, he recites the names and gotra aloud so you can hear and verify. At the time of the pind offering, he shows each pind being prepared and offered. At the time of the tarpan, you can see the water and sesame being poured.
For NRI families in different time zones, the ceremony can be scheduled at a mutually convenient time. The ghats in Varanasi are available from 7 AM to sunset IST, and the pandit can adjust the timing to align with morning or evening hours in the USA, UK, Australia, or Gulf.
If the video call drops due to network issues at the ghat (internet connectivity at the ghats can be inconsistent), the pandit completes the ceremony as planned and shares the recorded video immediately after.
For families who also have the ashes of the departed and wish to combine Pind Daan with Asthi Visarjan in Varanasi, the process is:
Combined cost: Asthi Visarjan (₹2,000 to ₹5,000 depending on the package) + Pind Daan (₹3,000 to ₹11,000 depending on the package). The pandit coordinates both ceremonies seamlessly.
USA: Ship ashes via USPS International Priority Mail or FedEx. Customs declaration should describe the contents as “cremated human remains” — this is standard and accepted. Delivery to India typically takes 7 to 14 days. Ceremony can be scheduled at 8 to 10 PM EST / 5 to 7 PM PST so you can watch live in your evening while it is morning at the Varanasi ghat.
UK: Ship via Royal Mail International Tracked or DHL. Delivery typically takes 5 to 10 days. Ceremony can be scheduled at 2 to 4 PM GMT, aligning with morning hours at the ghat.
Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar): Ship via Aramex or India Post. Delivery typically takes 4 to 7 days. Time zone difference is only 1.5 to 2.5 hours from IST, making live video calls very convenient.
Singapore and Malaysia: Ship via SingPost or DHL. Delivery typically takes 5 to 8 days. Time zone is 2.5 hours ahead of IST — a morning ceremony at 8 AM IST aligns with 10:30 AM Singapore time.
Australia: Ship via Australia Post International. Delivery typically takes 7 to 14 days. A 7 AM IST ceremony aligns with 12:30 PM AEST — lunchtime viewing.
Canada: Similar to USA. Ship via Canada Post International. Ceremony timing aligns with evening hours in Eastern and Pacific time zones.
Payment for NRI families can be made via international bank transfer, PayPal, Wise, or through a relative in India via UPI.
Many services charge ₹7,000 to ₹15,000 for online Pind Daan in Varanasi. Pitradev starts at ₹3,000 because we are based in Varanasi, our pandits are local, and we do not add layers of middlemen or platform margins.
The key differences:
Same pricing as in-person. We do not charge a premium for online. The pandit, the ghat, and the vidhi are the same — the only thing different is that you are watching on a screen instead of sitting at the ghat.
We are in Varanasi. Pitradev is based in Varanasi, not in Bangalore or Delhi coordinating remotely. Our team is at the ghats. We know the pandits personally. There is no outsourcing.
Photos and video are standard, not extra. Every online Pind Daan includes photos and video documentation at no additional cost. Many competitors charge ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 extra for video.
Live video call is free. WhatsApp video call during the ceremony is included in all packages. No additional charge.
No advance-only booking. Some competitors take ₹15,000 as “advance” and then add costs later. Pitradev’s pricing is fixed — the amount confirmed at booking is the total amount. Nothing more is asked during or after the ceremony.
For families who also wish to perform Pind Daan at Gaya or Prayagraj, Pitradev coordinates online ceremonies at all three tirthas.
Online Pind Daan is not a substitute for being at the Ganga. It is a bridge — between your intention and the sacred river, between your duty and the physical distance that separates you from Kashi. When a qualified pandit performs the ceremony with the correct sankalp and complete vidhi at the Ganga ghat on your behalf, the offering reaches your ancestors with the same grace as if you were standing at the ghat yourself.
With Pitradev, online Pind Daan in Varanasi starts at ₹3,000 — with the same pandit, the same ghat, the same vidhi, and the same documentation as the in-person ceremony. Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Odia pandits available. Live video call included at no extra cost.
Your ancestors do not measure the distance you travelled. They measure the love behind the offering.
