Gaya is believed to be the most sacred place for performing Shradh rituals. According to Hindu tradition, performing Gaya Shradh at Vishnupad Mandir helps the departed soul attain peace and liberation, and it is considered the final Pind Daan for ancestors.
The complete Pind Daan ritual generally takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on the package selected and the number of sacred locations included in the ritual.
For performing Pind Daan, the priest usually requires:
Name of the deceased ancestor
Gotra of the family
Name of the person performing the ritual
These details are used during the Sankalp before the ritual begins.
No, if someone passed away in your family pind daan can not be done within one year. You will have to wait till his annual shraad/barsi is done and only then you can plan for Gaya Shraadh.
