The Barsi ceremony, also known as the death anniversary or the Remembrance Day or first year Shradh ceremony, is a significant event in Hindu culture. It is a way to pay tribute to the deceased, honor their memory, and offer prayers for their peaceful journey into the afterlife.

This ceremony marks the completion of the first year and holds deep spiritual significance in honoring the departed soul and ensuring peace for the ancestors. On this day, the karta, who had earlier performed the last rites and given fire to the chita, performs mundan (head shaving), takes a ritual bath, and conducts pind daan. The pind daan is performed not only for the departed soul but also for the previous three generations of ancestors, making it a complete ancestral ritual.
