• Pind Daan

In Hindu mythology, the ritual of Pinddaan is believed to have its roots in the story of Mahabharata. According to the legend, after the Kurukshetra war, Yudhishthira was grief-stricken by the death of his brothers and other family members in the war. In order to get rid of his grief, he sought the advice of Bhishma Pitamah.

Bhishma Pitamah advised Yudhishthira to perform Pinddaan ceremony to offer food and water to his departed family members. He explained that by doing so, the souls of the departed would be appeased, and their blessings would help Yudhishthira in leading a prosperous and peaceful life.

Thus, Yudhishthira performed the Pinddaan ceremony on the banks of the Ganges River, offering food and water to his departed family members. The ceremony is believed to have brought peace to the souls of his ancestors and helped Yudhishthira in overcoming his grief.

Since then, the Pinddaan ceremony has become an important ritual in Hinduism, especially in the context of ancestor worship. It is believed that by performing this ritual, one can not only help their departed ancestors to move on to the afterlife peacefully but also seek their blessings for a prosperous and peaceful life.

In Pune, there are several places where Pind Daan can be performed, such as:
