Ganapathi Homa is one of the most powerful Vedic fire rituals dedicated to Lord Ganesha — the first deity worshipped in every Hindu ceremony. The Homa invokes Lord Ganesha’s grace through sacred fire offerings, seeking his blessings to remove all obstacles (vighnams) and to bring wisdom, prosperity, and success into the lives of the family.

In Karnataka tradition, Ganapathi Homa holds deep significance. It is performed on auspicious occasions such as before starting a new business or venture, before a child’s education begins, before a major life event like a wedding or job change, on Ganesh Chaturthi and Sankashti Chaturthi, during house construction or renovation, or simply when a family seeks Lord Ganesha’s protection and blessings.

Pitradev arranges an experienced Kannada purohit at your home in Bangalore for the complete Ganapathi Homa vidhi.

The following pujas and homa are performed in sequence:

Ganapathi Pooja — The ceremony opens with the formal worship of Lord Ganesha with flowers, kumkum, Arshina, and other offerings, invoking his presence for the Homa.

Punyaha Vachanam — The purification ceremony that sanctifies the home, the family members, and the puja space. Sacred water is sprinkled while Vedic mantras are chanted, preparing the environment for the Homa.

Maha Sankalpam — The formal declaration of intent, in which the purohit states the names of the family members, the gotram, the nakshatram, and the specific purpose for which the Ganapathi Homa is being performed. This personalises the Homa to your family’s specific prayer.

Kalasha Pooja — The sacred Kalasha (pot) is established with water, mango leaves, coconut, and vastra, representing the divine presence of Lord Ganesha during the ceremony.

Ganapathi Homa (Japa and Aavarti) — This is the core of the ceremony. The sacred fire is lit in the homa kund, and offerings of ghee, samidha (sacred sticks), and other dravyas are made into the fire while the purohit chants the Ganapathi mantras. The Japa (repetitive chanting of the Ganapathi mantra) and the Aavarti (circumambulatory offerings) are performed with precision, each offering carrying the family’s prayers to Lord Ganesha through the sacred fire.

Poornahuti — The final and most significant offering into the fire, marking the completion of the Homa. The Poornahuti offering includes coconut, vastra, and other auspicious items, symbolising the surrender of the ego and the complete devotion to Lord Ganesha.

Prasad Distribution — The sanctified prasad is distributed to all family members and guests, carrying the blessings of the Homa.

What purohit ji brings:

All pooja samagries including Arshina (turmeric), kumkum, coconuts, mango leaves, Tulasi, Darba grass, Kalasha, vastra, Navadhanya (9 types of grains), jackets, betel leaves, betel nuts, homa sticks, samidha (sacred firewood), dravyas (herbal offerings), ghee, and all other materials required for the pooja and homa.

When to perform Ganapathi Homa:

Ganesh Chaturthi — the most auspicious day for Ganapathi Homa. Sankashti Chaturthi — observed every month on Chaturthi tithi.
